Peoples Energy Employee Volunteers Roll into Austin Neighborhood; Repairs Four Area Homes

Company Broadens "Rebuilding Together" Participation Through Inside Safety Inspections

CHICAGO, IL – More than 100 Peoples Energy employees visited the Austin community today to help renovate four homes of low-income residents as part of its participation in Rebuilding Together. Employees from Gas Workers Union Local 18007 also completed Inside Safety Inspections and meter changes for customers in the area who are due for this work. This is the company's ninth straight year of participating in the annual project, formerly known as Christmas in April.

"Peoples Energy is proud of its employees' commitment to building strong communities through our expanded outreach efforts today," said Rodrigo A. Sierra, vice president of Corporate and Government Relations at Peoples Energy. "Day by day, our employees deliver safe and reliable energy to customers, but it is opportunities to give back to the communities where they live and work that really let them shine."

Employees completed home repairs, landscaping and painting. In addition, Mead Electric Company donated labor and materials to completely rewire one of the homes. Other work included new cabinetry, bathroom fixtures, new door and the installation of programmable thermostats and smoke/carbon monoxide detectors.

The company has a long-standing commitment to volunteering to help make communities a better place. Peoples Energy employees give about 5,000 hours of service to the Chicagoland area annually. In past years, Peoples Energy volunteers have refurbished Deborah's Place, American Indian Center, the Little Village Boys and Girls Club, Longwood Academy, Marcy-Newberry Center, Fifth City Community Center and St. John de LaSalle School.
