Peoples Gas hosts Winter Resource Fair to help Chicagoans with heating bills
Utility encourages customers to sign up for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Share the Warmth
CHICAGO – U.S. Representative Bobby Rush (1st District) joined Peoples Gas and CEDA (Community Economic Development Association) to host the 13th annual Winter Resource Fair at Gary Comer Youth Center, at 7200 S. Ingleside., on the city’s south side.
“At a time when many people find themselves struggling to make ends meets, its resource fairs such as these that provide resources, solutions and stability to working families and people in need,” Rep. Rush said. “Each year that we’ve held this in the district, Peoples Gas, CEDA and other partners have risen to the challenge and work successfully to serve the needs of our most vulnerable families.”
Attendees received one-on-one consultations with Peoples Gas and nearly 15 local vendors who provided information on energy and financial assistance, including, CEDA and ComEd. Several city, state and human services agencies also were present to assist customers with other available resources.
“No matching payment is required from customers who qualify for Share the Warmth funds,” said Michelle Rindt, vice president – customer service, Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas. “We always urge customers to contact us if they need help managing their heating bills.”
Peoples Gas offered information and enrolled customers for energy efficiency rebates and programs, including Home Energy Jumpstart, which provides free, energy-saving products such as programmable thermostats, showerheads, faucet aerators, pipe insulation, compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) and smart power strips.
Through the federally funded LIHEAP program, customers receive help toward their energy bills. The Peoples Gas Share the Warmth program provides grants of up to $200 to qualifying customers for their natural gas bills.
Both LIHEAP and Share the Warmth are administered in Cook County by CEDA.
