Rep. Gutierrez, CEDA, Peoples Gas host Winter Resource Fair

Chicagoans encouraged to apply for heating bill assistance

CHICAGO – U.S. Representative Luis Gutierrez (4th District) joined Peoples Gas and the Community Economic Development Association (CEDA) to host the 13th annual Winter Resource Fair at Iglesia Centro Familiar Vida Nueva, 2910 N. Central Ave., on Chicago’s northwest side.

“Part of my job as a congressman for the 4th District is to help constituents link up with benefits and services for which they are eligible or entitled,” said Gutierrez. “We want to be a bridge between citizens and the federal and state governments and local resources to benefit the community. I am so pleased to partner with Peoples Gas for the Winter Resource Fair because we really want an informed community.”

Through the federally funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and the Peoples Gas Share the Warmth fund, customers receive help toward their energy bills.

“No matching payment is required from customers who qualify for Share the Warmth funds,” said Michelle Rindt, vice president – customer service, Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas. “We always urge customers to contact us if they need help managing their heating bills.”

Attendees received one-on-one consultations with Peoples Gas and a dozen local vendors, including ComEd, who provided information on energy and financial assistance. In addition to CEDA, several city, state and human services agencies also were present to assist customers with other available resources.

Peoples Gas offered information and enrolled customers for energy efficiency rebates and programs, including Home Energy Jumpstart, which provides free, energy-saving products such as programmable thermostats, showerheads, faucet aerators, pipe insulation, compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) and smart power strips.

Both LIHEAP and Share the Warmth are administered in Cook County by CEDA.

Peoples Gas customers who were unable to attend the Winter Resource Fair can visit or, or call CEDA's hotline at 800-571-CEDA (2332).
