Peoples Gas partners with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Boys and Girls Club to create dream studio
Massive volunteer effort makes grand reopening a reality
CHICAGO – On September 26, Peoples Gas joined community and business partners to celebrate the grand reopening of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boys and Girls Club in Chicago’s East Garfield Park neighborhood.
The Boys and Girls Club underwent an extensive renovation that included the creation of a high-tech recording studio, dubbed the “Dream Studio” by Peoples Gas that enables children and teens to record music, videos, podcasts and much more.
“It’s been a pleasure to make the ‘Dream Studio’ a space for the children of this community to express their talents and creativity for years to come,” said Charles Matthews, president and CEO – Peoples Gas. “Our partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago enables us to impact and empower Chicago youth and the lives of people in need.”
The Dream Studio, which includes a new computer, camera, mixing board, microphones and green screen, is just part of the enduring Peoples Gas imprint at the Boys and Girls Club. During the remodeling, the Peoples Gas energy efficiency team completed a free energy assessment and installed low-flow showerheads and faucets to help conserve water and reduce energy costs at the facility.
The celebration culminated an ongoing partnership between Peoples Gas, the Club and Rebuilding Together Metro Chicago. More than 180 volunteers helped repair the facility during the Peoples Gas’ 21st annual Commitment to Community Day – a day of volunteer service that brought Peoples Gas employees, family and friends together to make critically needed repairs to a neighborhood-based nonprofit facility. In addition to building the Dream Studio, Peoples Gas volunteers restored the facility’s playground and repaired plumbing and electrical fixtures.
